It was another dope night for Calgary’s growing hip-hop scene. 10 at 10 showcase series entered its 43rd volume on Wed. Apr. 8, 2015 at Commonwealth Bar & Stage. Doors opened at 9 p.m. with performances starting at 10 p.m.. Calgary was treated to 10 amazing performances from emerging urban artists such as Bobby Blast’em, Lex & Moe, Harry Baker, Missfudge, A.O.N., Blaze On3 & Donatello, Q82, Blieve and Casino Costa. The show also featured the dance troupe The Tomorrows grooving out with their slick, smooth movements.
All four elements of hip-hop were on display, weaving together to create a perfect combination of urban entertainment. The emcees poured their souls into their performances and the crowd was feeling every moment of it. Hosting duties belonged to 10 at 10 executive director Beni J and RS Poe. They got the crowd hype with their exuberant energy and dazzling chemistry, trading off one another effortlessly.
The night was a huge success, bringing in all sorts of folks who love the culture of hip-hop. During the midway point of the show, a dance circle formed in the middle of the club. A few members of dance troupe UnivereSoul Dance came in and dazzled with their freestyling skills and yours truly came and busted a move. It was a fun experience that got everybody feeling good. As a tradition, the end of the show featured a freestyle cypher where emcees got to show their stuff as they battled for two tickets to the upcoming Rick Ross show.
Hip-hop in Calgary is only going to continue to grow and 10 at 10 is doing their part in keeping the culture alive and flourishing. Until next time y’all!
