Patio season is underway

With COVID-19 cases slowing down tremendously, the restrictions in Alberta have fully lifted. Albertans will finally be able to enjoy the first open summer in a long time, something everyone is itching for. One of the best things to do in Calgary in the summer is hit one of the many patios, so 10 at 10 scooped out 5 patios to visit this summer.

Madison’s 1212

Madison’s 1212 is a little gem in the middle of Inglewood. It’s not your typical restaurant either, they have specialty gin and tonics, as well as specialty craft nachos. Any flavor, sweet or savory, you’ll find it on one of their nacho dishes. They also have a great brunch menu, with $1.50 mimosas every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 3 pm. Their patio is first come first serve, and they’ve just opened a new patio in the back of the restaurant called “rainbow alley”, perfect for large groups wanting to get something to eat.

Trolley 5

A popular place on 17th Ave dedicated to the feeling of community, Trolley 5 is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a local brewery in Calgary. Any type of beer you could want, they’ve got it, from six-packs to kegs. In terms of food, they’ve got everything. From dim sum to burgers, anyone and everyone can find a favorite at Trolley 5. Best of all, they’ve got a huge patio overlooking 17th ave.

Una Pizza and wine

Inspired by San Fransico’s huge pizza scene, Una Pizza and wine brings Calgarians delicious artisan pizza. With an emphasis on ingredients over technique, Una pizza’s handcrafted food will hit the spot every time. They also make everything in-house, from the dough to the sauces. Just like Trolley 5, they’ve got a good patio overlooking 17th ave. With multiple locations across Calgary, Una pizza is definitely worth checking out.

Alforno

Alforno cafe is a must-stop patio this summer. They have a huge coffee drink selection as well as a bunch of delicious pastries to choose from. Their breakfast, lunch and diner menus are packed full of great options, like their sandwiches that are made fresh in-house every day. It’s a great place to stop in for a sweet treat if you’re in the area, but make sure you get there in the daytime because they close by 8 pm every day.

Lounge 18

One of the most popular locations on 17th, Lounge 18 is a great place to kick back after work on the patio. With a happy hour from 2-7 pm, even people who work a 9-5 can still come in and enjoy. One of their most popular specials is their half-price waterpipes during happy hour but their food and drinks are good too. From calamari to specialty cocktails, Loung 18 will have something for everyone.
