Rec The Mic

Rec The Mic is an all-ages open mic competition and dance showcase presented by 10at10 at the Rec Room. Originating in 2017, rappers and r&b singers perform 1 song in front of a live audience and judges panel. The top act will earn $100 and bragging rights, while also gaining opportunities for high profile 10at10 events and concerts. The dance components of the event showcases cities premier hiphop dance studios: illFX Education, UniverseSoul Dance and Pulse Studios. There is even an open mic rap cypher at the beginning of the night to allow any MC to drop a verse.

With a runtime from 8:00-11:00pm and no cover entry, this event gives plenty of time for participants to arrive early and head out after! The Rec Room kitchen is also open to serve full meals and drinks.

More Than Competition

Rec The Mic gives artists an opportunity to enter the 10at10 platform and community. An artist performing only one song gives them the time to fully rehearse, focus and execute a strong performance. From outfits, to vocal training and delivery – artists will be judged through the criteria of: to win their prize. Even though only one person can walk away with the cash, all participants benefits from performing in front of hundreds of people, professional photos and video all while networking with other artists.

Rec The Mic also gives the opportunity for artists to start early. Being all-ages, this gives artists in highschool the chance to touch a big stage and perform in front of family or friends way ahead of entering the club scene.
