Described as an experimental singer/songwriter and rapper, Soomie formerly known as Mayal, draws his inspiration from high profile artists such as Kanye West, Travis Scott and Drake to mention a few. His beginnings into the Canadian music scene started when he released a new single every week for ten weeks straight on SoundCloud, drawing large amounts of attention and praise to himself all whilst discovering his own sound.

From open mics to performing at local music festivals, Soomie has developed his artistry with hard work and dedication to his craft. Constantly chasing new and refreshing sounds to develop his own catalogue and pursue music to it’s fullest degree. With only four songs under his belt currently, the singer/songwriter hopes to expand his discography greatly before the end of the year.

Dissecting Mi Amor

When discussing the process of creating the song, Soomie proclaimed that it was a swift procedure when constructing the track itself. Additionally, he further stated that “Honestly, Mi Amor was one of the easiest and fastest songs I’ve made. The influence comes from the flirtatious nature of locking eyes with a beautiful woman at a function and you both know what’s up.”

Although he may have only four singles currently released, Soomie hopes to resonate with his audience through engaging hooks and lively music. When asked about how the Calgarian artist would describe his sound, he explained that “Energetic is the first word that comes to mind when I think of my sound. No two songs of mine sound the same, so it’s tough to generalize my sound. You’ll hear catchy melodies, seamless transitions through phrases and well sculpted layers.”

The singer also declared that the song wasn’t built to have any special meanings or connotations, but rather for individuals to just enjoy. “This is a pretty fun and careless type track.” says Soomie. “There’s really no solid message to it. I mainly want DJs to spin the record at the club for people to dance to, nothing too sentimental about this one.”

What Lies Ahead

Soomie details that these records are just the beginning for him. Creating genre-blending music that captivates crowds all while staying musically fluid throughout. Teasing some of his upcoming content, the Calgarian artist mentioned that, “I want to stay consistent with releasing music as I only have a handful of songs released. I’m working on a couple projects to release this year including my debut album which is coming out in the third quarter of this year. I’m trying to dip my toes into a little bit of R&B which might transform itself into an EP for the summer, but that’s still to be determined.”
